The difference between...
Special orders and custom work
We make, to order, almost any piece you've seen that is already in our
line. We call this a special order. There are exceptions to this for
construction and "wearability" reasons and some of our pieces have been
discontinued and we no longer make them. Should you want the piece in
another color or karat gold or perhaps a different colored stone than the
sample that you saw, we can make it.
For the Christmas holidays, all special orders must be placed and full
payment received by November 1 for us to be able to guarantee holiday
delivery for you. Deposits are non refundable and our last day to ship to
guarantee holiday delivery for Christmas delivery in the USA is
December 5th and must be shipped insured UPS to a valid street address.
What is the difference in custom work and a special order? A special
order is made from something we have already made. A custom piece
starts from scratch with sketches for approval, models for approval,
details of construction worked out and multiple other facets of
development to go through. This is the process of making a prototype. A
piece that we have already made for our line has already gone through all
of these stages and only awaits being ordered to your specifications.
Prices for making a prototype or a custom made item usually start at
$750.00, then add metal and stones as the design requires. It is not less
expensive to hand craft a one of a kind piece, even though you may have
your own metal or choose a lesser expensive metal such as silver. The
labor for a prototype in the normal production process of jewelry is
usually spread out over the number of pieces that will be made and sold.
In a one of a kind, handcrafted item, there is only one piece made in
which to disperse the labor costs.
